Kilt Size Guide
Your kilt length will primarily depend on your height and where you plan to wear the kilt, typically around your waist. If you find significant variations in your measurement results, double-check your technique and remeasure if necessary. Body shape and personal preferences will also influence your ideal kilt length.
Here’s a guideline to help you determine the appropriate kilt drop based on your height:
- Height 5’ 6” to 5’ 7” = Kilt Length: 22” to 22.5”
- Height 5’ 8” to 5’ 9” = Kilt Length: 23” to 23.5”
- Height 5’ 10” to 5’ 11” = Kilt Length: 24” to 24.5”
- Height 6’ to 6’ 2” = Kilt Length: 24.5” to 25.5”
- Height 6’ 3” to 6’ 4” = Kilt Length: 26” to 26.5”
- Height 6’ 5” to 6’ 7” = Kilt Length: 27” to 27.5”
Essential Considerations for Kilt Length:
- The kilt drop is influenced by the position of the kilt on your waist. If you wear the kilt higher on your waist, the length will naturally be shorter.
- The type of jacket you plan to wear also affects the kilt’s ideal length. For example, a full-length jacket may require a slightly longer kilt.
- Traditional Kilts: Typically worn at the middle of the knee cap.
- Military Kilts: Generally shorter, worn at the top of the knee cap.
To accurately measure, kneel on the floor and have another person measure from the point on your waist where you want to wear the kilt, all the way down to the floor.
Waist Measurement and Fit
Your kilt’s waist size may differ slightly from your usual trouser size due to its unique design and the way you wear it. It is recommended to wear your kilt around or just above your navel for the best fit and comfort.
Measure your waist at the desired position (where you plan to wear your kilt) to ensure the perfect fit.

Ross Hamilton –
This kilt is not for blending in—and that’s what I love about it! The bright yellow tartan apron pops perfectly against the black body, and the chains add that bold, gothic touch. The material feels solid, and it wears really comfortably even after hours. I rocked this at a music fest and got stopped constantly. If you’re into alternative style with a Highland twist, this one’s a must.
